Description of Classes

Restorative Yoga: Restorative Yoga is suitable for anyone who can get up and down off the floor, with or without assistance. Restorative Yoga is a very slow moving and gentle class. The room will be warm and dark with beautiful calm music. You will be guided into a variety of postures where your entire body will be supported by the props and the floor. The intent is to allow the body to relax as deeply as possible, when this happens quite often the mind follows! Benefits of this practice include; lower heart rate, lower blood pressure, increased immune function, deeper breaths, a more focused mind, and a calmer overall state of well being. Come dressed in warm comfortable layers, fuzzy socks and pajamas are encouraged!

Gentle Yoga: This class is slow paced, open and accessible to all levels, with soothing, rhythmical music. Participants will be guided through a warming, alignment focused class to develop strength, endurance, flexibility and stress relief. There will be a combination of seated, standing and supine postures. The pace is slow to maximize time for adjustments and modifications. Some poses will be threaded together by the pace and rhythm of your breath. A variety of props (blocks, balls, blankets and bolsters) will be used to bring each body into optimal alignment in the postures.  This is a great class for beginners or those needing to stretch and loosen tight muscles from injury, chronic disease or stress.

Stretch and Restore: Stretch and Restore class is slow paced, accessible to all levels and abilities, (postures are seated or supine on the floor), cooling, with soft gentle music. Participants will be guided through a sequence of Yin and Restorative postures. Yin Postures are held for 2 – 5 minutes to target tendons, ligaments and muscles. Yin postures feel like a long-held, deep stretch, emphasis is placed on the time spent in the posture and a smooth even breath. Restorative postures are held for 5 – 15 minutes in a fully supported shape. Props provide the shape and integrity of the pose so that the body can completely relax. After class, participants report feeling calmer, very relaxed and “stretched out”, perfect for those suffering from chronic pain and tension and for those struggling with anxiety or stress.

Yoga FLOW.  This is a moderately paced, warming class, open for those who can bear weight on their hands, music is fun and upbeat. Participants will be guided through a flowing, heating yoga practice of Hatha and Vinyasa poses. Each class will have a theme, focus or peak pose. We will work to warm the body up with Sun Salutations, increase heart rate through breath and strength poses and then lengthen the major muscles with twists, forwards folds, back bends and inversions. The class sequence and pace will be determined by the participants energy level and ability. This means that ALL LEVELS will be accommodated by offering variations and modifications that either make the pose or pace easier or harder. Please bring a water bottle and towel.

Roll and Restore Yoga: This is a very slow paced class, open to all levels, cooling, with soft relaxing music. The class will start with using balls and dowels to work out tension and muscle tightness. Poses are done on the floor with lots of props and blankets. The goal is to comfortably support the body in a variety of shapes so that over time, the muscles soften and lengthen. As the body relaxes, blood pressure lowers, the nervous system “resets” and healing can occur. A variety of techniques will be offered to assist in quieting the mind and allowing the chronic tension of the body to release. Please dress warm and comfortably in layers. As the body relaxes the internal temperature cools, as a result, everyone will want warm socks, and layers to stay warm.

Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga is a class that targets the connective tissue (fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints) and can be a very deep stretch. The class is slow paced, almost always on the floor with a variety of props to  assist those who have injuries or stiffer bodies. Open to everyone  who can get up and down off the floor with or without assistance. The postures are held anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. Postures are always made adaptable and safe and you can come out at any time. A great class to learn how to stay focused inward on your breath and to discern the difference between discomfort and pain.
